FULL BIO
Los Angeles–born artist Alex Whitehouse has rapidly emerged as one of the most compelling new voices in contemporary art. As an innovator and leading force behind New Age Expressionism, Whitehouse has cultivated a bold visual language built on raw materials, primitive figures, visceral poses, and vivid color. This distinctive style is not simply an aesthetic choice, but a direct reflection of the emotional terrain that has shaped his life from childhood into adulthood.

Whitehouse’s artistic identity began forming at an early age, forged in the midst of family trauma and the challenges of social isolation. When he was just ten years old, his father suffered the first of multiple heart attacks—an event that would ripple through his adolescence and continue to influence the symbolic vocabulary of his work. The skeletal forms, distorted shapes, and crude drawings that dominate his canvases serve as both personal landmarks and universal metaphors for fragility, survival, and the body under emotional strain.

Throughout his teenage years, Whitehouse stood apart from his peers, often marginalized within the public school system for expressing himself creatively. While other students sought conformity, Whitehouse embraced introspection and artistic experimentation. By the age of thirteen, he had already identified art as his life’s purpose, committing himself with a clarity and determination rare for someone so young. This early conviction is evident today in the intensity and honesty that permeate his work.

At the core of Whitehouse’s practice is a fearless engagement with the human condition—its pain, its contradictions, and its resilience. His canvases often feel excavated rather than painted, revealing layers of emotional history through scraped textures, improvised linework, and saturated color fields. The result is an aesthetic that is simultaneously raw and intentional, chaotic yet controlled, primitive yet deeply intelligent. In the realm of contemporary expressionism, Whitehouse’s voice is unmistakably his own.
Whitehouse is represented by Blvkbook Art Gallery at The Beverly Center in Los Angeles, a space renowned for showcasing influential modern and contemporary artists. His work appears alongside icons such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Colette, positioning him within a lineage of artists who challenged norms and reshaped the visual culture of their time. This recognition is not simply a testament to his technical skill, but to the emotional weight and authenticity his art carries.

As his career continues to evolve, Alex Whitehouse stands at the forefront of a new artistic movement—one rooted in vulnerability, rebellion, and the raw truth of lived experience. His work invites viewers to confront their own emotional landscapes while witnessing the transformative power of self-expression. With a rapidly growing presence in galleries and among collectors, Whitehouse is redefining what it means to create art in the modern era, proving himself a vital and influential figure in the contemporary Los Angeles art scene.
